The very cool Sarah and Christian made their way across the pond to get married in New York City. They live in Cheshire, which is southeast and northeast of Liverpool and Manchester (respectively) in the UK. I’ve photographed many many great couples from this part of the UK and, with the help of Facebook, got to know Sarah a bit before her wedding. I love that.
They chose The Bowery Hotel which is a very cool spot. Their room was filled with gorgeous natural light on this hazy day, and they came prepared with some really great accessories and props. The sentiment I loved most was that Sarah brought a photo of her grandparents. I found that to be very endearing and it made me think of my grandparents.
We headed down to the NYC Marriage Bureau and did the usual wait of about an hour. We met some great people from around the world there and it was therefore worth the wait! As usual, the ceremony was very short and sweet! The couple left things up to me with a few desires. The first of which was some kind of graffiti installation. There is a common (mis)conception that graffiti is commonplace in NYC. It’s not actually. And it can be hard to come by. I knew of a cool installation on the lower east side and took my couple there. In the hot sun we did a bunch of photos with the bride showing they way in her cool sunglasses! And from there we went over to the West Village and to the Highline.
I love the photograph of the passports – fantastic. What a wonderful place to elope to. They must have had the time of their lives.
