Tip Tuesday: Slow and Stable Wins the Race

I  love portraying the chaos of the city swirling behind the couple I’m shooting as they appear frozen in time. It’s really whimsical and romantic! In order to make an image like this and show the motion in the background, you need to slow the shutter speed. At a slow shutter speed, any shake in the camera will result in a blurry frame, so I always stabilize myself or the camera! Here, the exposure is f/10 at 1/5th of a second, and I’ve placed my elbows on the marble surface to add the stability I need.

I love that it looks like the city revolves around them for even just a brief moment!
