This past week of reasonable temperatures isn’t fooling anybody– New Yorkers know what’s up. It’s about to get hot. Really hot. And everyone’s home/workplace/studio heats up despite how good the air-conditioning is.
If you want a cheap and easy way to keep your place cool, put a few sheets of black foam core in between the window and the shades/curtains and keep the heat out! You might look like a crazy doomsday prepper, but you’ll be comfortable! You can get 2 really big sheets for about $10 at office supply stores. White foam core does the trick too, and as a bonus, it can also be used as a simple reflector on your shoots! Just cut a piece down to the size you want and hold it in the opposite hand as your camera when shooting. Give it a try– you can really accent your subject with a little bit of light!
